Cultivating Bold Partnerships in the Pandemic Paradigm – Virtual Roundtable Discussion
Virtual Roundtable presented on: Wednesdays, October 14 Online.
Reading time: 4 minutes
Circle of Sustainable Europe (CoSE), World Space Week (WSW) and World Summit AI (WSAI) decided to partner up. But this time, the year 2020 for a virtual high-level roundtable event – ‘Cultivating Bold Partnerships in the Pandemic Paradigm‘. During this Pandemic, a lot of challenges combined with changes have taken place from a local perspective to a global level. With Exclusive Guest Speakers from the UAE and The Netherlands: Igor Beuker and Malak Trabelsi Loeb, this roundtable event was organized and moderated by Co-founder and Secretary: Ramon Rahangmetan.
Partnerships and Sustainable Development
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) adopted by the UN Member States in 2015 can only be realized with strong global partnerships and cooperation. A successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships — at the global, regional, national and local levels — built upon principles and values, and upon a shared vision and shared goals placing people and the planet at the center. Many countries require Official Development Assistance to encourage growth and trade. Yet, aid levels are falling and donor countries have not lived up to their pledge to ramp up development finance. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economy is projected to contract sharply, by 3 per cent, in 2020, experiencing its worst recession since the Great Depression. Strong international cooperation is needed now more than ever to ensure that countries have the means to recover from the pandemic, build back better and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
World Summit AI
Technology in general plays a big role in the social, economic, and environmental dimensions in ensuring this partnership transition to occur, with a collective mission to solve the biggest challenges of our time. World Space Week The Netherlands
World Space Week is an international celebration of science and technology and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1999 that World Space Week will be held each year from October 4-10. These dates commemorate two events: October 4, 1957: Launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1, thus opening the way for space exploration
October 10, 1967: The signing of the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activites of States in the Exploration and Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies. World Space Week consists of space education and outreach events held by space agencies, aerospace companies, schools, planetaria, museums, and astronomy clubs around the world in a common timeframe. These synchronized space events attract greater public and media attention
Summary of the Online Roundtable Session
Question for the Panelists: What comes to mind when you hear or read the word: ‘Partnerships’?
Igor Beuker answered the question with “making progress” in times of distress. To cross-level collaborate can lead to more innovation, diversity, and engagement. Which in turn can lead to more options towards better solutions. Acccording to Igor: “most of the time for example businesses are using traditional ways of marketing, but in today’s world with the 4th Indutrial Revolution already being here its strategies are quite outdated” Igor continues: “We need to open our eyes to new opportunities, Space and AI Technologies are offering these opportunities.”

Malak Trabelsi Loeb answered the question with “having a vision” as this leads towards a better work ethic, collective direction, and overall efficient strategies. In this matter partnerships make room for more responsibilities, sharing tasks, and enhance international support. According to Malak: “Studying International Business and Space Law, I came across so many new opportunities which most people don’t see, we need leaders who can paint the vision to move forward, not following those that are blinded by their own interests.”

Conclusion of the Roundtable
To have both the perspectives of creating and selling multiple businesses by Igor Beuker, and governmental laws and regulations towards efficient policies by Malak Trabelsi Loeb, it was quite obvious by both panelists that due to the pandemic, more people need to be aware of the importance of communicating, engaging and working with each other. Even though the online reality offers a faster, cheaper, efficient, and sustainable way of sending our message across. The aspect of trust, transparency, timing, and teamwork takes more effort in the long term, and it’s not definite enough if the ‘New Normal’ supports this way of working. Thereby rules and regulations when it comes down to creating new efficient policies during these uncertain times have to be taken into account, these policies eventually serve various interests of governments, businessess, initiatives, and society as a whole. However organizations themselves are working with implemented policies based upon the views and values in line with the vision of the organization, these policies eventually affect the procedures and direction the organization has to take, and what the impact is internal and eternal. The overall roundtable has been recorded and will be posted in December by the World Summit AI.
