The Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference is the main gathering of the European circular economy community. The 2019 edition, organised in Brussels on the initiative of the Commission and the European Economic and Social Committee, will take stock of the Circular Economy Action Plan’s achievements, it will set the framework of new horizons in the circular economy and give participants the opportunity to grow their network, gain new insights, knowledge and circular partners.
“The essence of a circular economy is how we redefine growth”
The conference will explore the action plan’s implementation as a successful framework for the transition, while discussing policies to capitalise on the current global momentum. It will also widen the discussion to consider the circular economy as an enabler to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
The LIFE programme is the EU’s funding instrument for the environment and climate action in alignment with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Agenda. LIFE contributes to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental and climate policy and laws by co-financing projects with European added value. Since its creation in 1992, LIFE has been through different funding periods. The current funding period 2014-2020 has a budget of €3.4 billion.
“The best way to create value in the 21th century is to connect creativity with technology”
On Day 2 (7 March), in cooperation with the Coordination Group members of the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform, participatory workshops will showcase successes and identify new challenges and opportunities in areas such as circular cities and climate change mitigation, National circular economy strategies, consumers-behavior in the circular economy and the large corporations.
I´ve had a great time during the first day of the conference, to see different sustainability leaders of organizations explaining what they value and how we can accelerate the process of a more circular way of production and service. It is important to engage the young generations in this process and give them a voice as well in this transition. I hope this conference will provide as much value as it did for me. Thank you, and see you next year.
